WEBSITE MOVED! Hi friends, you can still find all my past sermons and blog posts here, but I will not be updating this site anymore and I have removed the pages from the menu other than the blog.
For the same content and more, please now go to www.rhythmsoftheway.org. (Caveat: It will take me awhile to move all the sermons on over, so do check out the blog here for the sermons.)
Abiding in the Vine, Journeying on the Way
If I were to describe the process of discipleship or spiritual formation with six words, I would choose the following: abiding, growing, pruning, journeying, resting, and loving – words that grow out of Jesus’s own statements about Himself and out of his invitations to all men, women, and children to follow Him.
“I am the Vine, you are the branches. If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.” (John 15:5)
“I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.” (John 14:6)
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matt 11:28-30, The Message)
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. . . . Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31)
